Mountain Bike Ride in Upper Mustang

Certainly one of the most beautiful and fascinating mountain bike adventures you can imagine! On this adventure you go mountain biking on single tracks, through breathtaking landscapes, discovering ancient Tibetan culture through its temples and monasteries that contain some of the most beautiful Buddhist paintings that can be seen in the Himalayas. For the lovers of vast open spaces this tour is a dream come true!

 

We specialize in organizing treks in Nepal, which are unique and unfrequented by tourists.

 

Day 1: Welcome to Nepal

Arrival at Tribhuvan airport in Kathmandu (1340 meters), a warm welcome by our representative and transfer to hotel. Time to visit Durbar Square.

Day 2: Kathmandu-Boudhanath

Your original Nepalese visa passport is needed to prepare your entry permit in Mustang restricted area. Before you get the permit, you can visit the amazing Stupa of Boudhanath, the most important Buddhist cultural centre in Kathmandu, as many Tibetan refugees stopped at here, creating more than 50 Gompa (Tibetan monasteries). Since 1979, Boudhanath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3: Pokhara

Flight to Pokhara. Pokhara is a place of extraordinary natural beauty. Located at an altitude lower than Kathmandu, the city offers a more tropical atmosphere and the flora more varied, with beautiful lakes and breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks.

Boat ride on the lake Pewha Tal, walk along the lake and last bike check.

Day 4: Jomsom- Kagbeni -12 km

Take a spectacular flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, (about 20 minutes). Arrive at Jomsom Airport, and assemble your bicycles. After breakfast, start the adventure and head for Kagbeni (2800m). You will follow Kaligandaki's gorge on a flat, rocky track along a famous trail. Kagibeni is the entry point in the Upper Mustang where we will spend the night.

Day 5: Bike Kagbeni - Jarkhot - 10 km

 

It is advisable to wake up early to enjoy the dawn and capture some beautiful photos! Today you will travel mostly by following the famous Annapurna Tour, you visit Jharkot village-fortress. This stage is relatively short, but already the altitude starts to appear.

Day 6: Acclimation day in Jarkhot

This rest day is very important for acclimatization. There are several possibilities for walking or cycling around Jarkhot. In the afternoon, you will visit the temples of Muktinath, an important Hindu pilgrimage, just 3 miles from Jarkhot.

Day 7: Bike Jarkhot - Gyu La -Chele -18 km

Today the trip enters in Upper Mustang. Climb up to the Gyu La passage that goes down to Chusang where you will have lunch and rest for a while. After lunch, follow the banks of the Kali River and cross the bridge, climbing to reach Chele. A beautiful village offering a spectacular view of Mount Nilgiri and the Kaligandaki Valley from a different angle from that you experienced in Jomsom. In Chele we can explore some ancient buildings and a monastery.

Day 8: Bike Chele - Samar - Shyangmochen - 20 km

A nice track path to reach Samar, a scenic village surrounded by poplar trees. The track overlooks the village to Shyangmochen. Along the way, you will probably encounter many trekkers, pony and donkeys!

Day 9: Bike Shyangmochen- Tsarang - 22 km

A brief climb to reach the first small pass before two others. After the first pass, you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the Nilgiri, Annapurna and Mustang. Continue on a downhill track, towards the Gilling, then uphill through some beautiful villages. After the highest pass of the day (4000m) you go downhill to Ghami.

 

you can enjoy tea with delicious Tibetan food in a tea house. Visit some cultivated lands where yak graze and pass a bridge along the wall of Mani and an ancient Gumba. Approach the last pass followed by a descent that leads to Tsarang where you can finally relax after this tiring day!

Day 10: Bike Tsarang - Lo La – Lo Manthang -20 km

Today we finally get to our destination of Lo-Manthang, the capital of the Kingdom of Mustang. It's a relatively easy day with just Lo-la (3810m) pass to cross. The views will be amazing with some 360 ??degree panoramas where you can stop and take photos. You will take the jeep tracks and some other trekker paths. After the pass, reach Lo-Manthang after about half an hour. After lunch, rest of the day will be available for leisure.

Day 11: Lo Manthang

Day dedicated to visiting the town and its surroundings. The magnificent monasteries of LhoManthang are beautiful examples of the Sakya-Pa sect where the alleys and squares invite you to visit them offering all the calm and serenity. With a bit of luck (the guide will help) you can get a blessing from King Jingme Paldor Bista Gurung in the royal palace.

Day 12: Bike around Lo Manthang

Full day dedicated to excursions in the surrounding area to be chosen on site with the guide. Excursions can include the villages of Garphu, Namdrul, Tingkar, Nyphu Gompa, Namgyal Gompa or Jhong Caves or other similar excursions. We recommend hiring horses which makes it more enjoyable and cheerful.

Day 13: Bike Lo Manthang – Ghar Gompa- Ghemi - 30 km

Now is the time to leave Lo-Manthang and go back through a new route. After crossing the two passes over 4000 meters and leaving behind the Mustang valley, you will be able to see Ghar Gumba. In the evening, we will explore the village of Ghami.

Day 14: Bike Ghemi - Nyi La - Samar - 32km

Today, go back to a large part of the course, only a short portion over Gedling is a new. You must once again cross the Nyi La pass, Sangbochen La. The goal of the day is the small village of Samar.

Day 15: Bike Samar - Chele - Chhuksang – Jomsom - Marpha -36 km

Start the day with a small climb up to Da-Jorila (3737 m), then downhill to Chele. Go along the banks of the Kali Gandaki River to Chhusang. After lunch, you will ride along the Kali Gandaki Valley until Kagbeni and then the same track used on the first day. From Jomsom, you go a little bit further down the valley to spend the night at Marpha

Day 16: Bike Marpha - Gasa - Tatopani - Beni - Pokhara

After a delicious breakfast, head towards a subtropical region along the Kaligandaki River. Descend the entire path with lush scenery. You will go to Tatopani (which means "hot spring" in Nepal) but which has, unfortunately, suffered the 2015 earthquake. Stop here at Tatopani for lunch. Go along the river bank to Beni Bazaar where the vehicle will wait for us to return to Pokhara.

Day 17: Pokhara

Today will be dedicated to the visit of Pokhara with  the Gorge Seats, Davis Falls, Tibetan refugee camp where you can shop for Tibetan rugs.

For the most daring there is the possibility of paragliding from a summit above Pokhara.

Day 18: Kathmandu

Flight to Kathmandu and end of the day at leisure.
