The Upper Mustang Tour by Jeep

This itinerary has been designed for travelers who love adventure in the most breathtaking Mustang valleys with spectacular mountain views along with encounters with the locals. The mid-way of our off-road trip is Lo-Manthang, the capital of the Mustang. On this route travel through arid and spectacular landscapes, clean and clear skies, rarefied lights and atmospheres ideal for those who love to photograph.


 We specialize in organizing tours in Nepal, which are unique and unfrequented by tourists.


Day 1: Welcome to Nepal

Arrival at Tribhuvan airport in Kathmandu (1340 meters), a warm welcome by our representative and transfer to hotel.Time to visit Durbar Square.

Day 2: Kathmandu-Boudhanath

Your original Nepalese visa passport is needed to prepare your entry permit in Nar Phu's restricted area. Before you get the permit, you can visit the Stupa of Boudhanath, the most important Buddhist cultural centre in Kathmandu, as many Tibetan refugees stopped at this resort, creating more than 50 Gompa (Tibetan monasteries). Since 1979, Boudhanath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3: Kathmandu-Bandipur-Pokhara

Departure for Bandipur, an ancient newari town perched on the Himalayan hills. It's a mixture of history, architecture, incredible views, impressive caves and intact landscapes. From here you enjoy a panorama on the chain of Annapurna, to the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and Langtang. Then, route to Pokhara. Pokhara is a place of extraordinary natural beauty. Located at an altitude lower than Kathmandu, the city offers a more tropical atmosphere and the flora more varied, with beautiful lakes and breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks.

Boat ride on the lake Pewha Tal, walk along the lake and visit the Women Skill Development Project Pokhara, an NGO founded in 1975 by four women to support women's literacy and training.

Day 4: Flight to Jomsom

Early in the morning, mountain flight to Jomsom (Dzongsam, 2731m about 25 minutes flight) passing through the two Himalayan giants of over 8,000m: Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, allowing stunning views. Visit to Jomsom and Intorni (Thini Gaon) for those who want or relax and acclimatize.

If the weather is unfavorable, you go to Jomsom by private Jeep that takes you on whole day ride through beautiful landscapes in this remote region and the cost is already included offset by any repayment for the missing flight.

Day 5: Kagbeni - Chusang - 3 hours

Load your Jeep and start the journey to the hidden realm of the Upper Mustang. Continue from Jomsom to Chhusang via Kagbeni. You will go along the banks of the Kali Gangaki River through the Kagbeni River Gorge. Kabburi is considered a sacred place for the Hindus. Kali Gandaki is also famous for the collection of "Saligram". Following the road that crosses the village of Tangbe you reach your day destination Chhusang, a fortified place including several villages. Beautiful colorful cliffs and a troglodyte monastery.

Day 6: Syangboche - Ghami

After breakfast head north to the village of Syangboche (3800 m) lying almost in the bottom of the valley. A short climb leads to the same pitch: the Syambochen La (3,850 m), where you have the first beautiful view on the village of Ghiling surrounded by green cultivated fields that develop in the valley floor. Then the trek goes almost flat to reach Chhunggar, where the Great Chorten is located, with the characteristic striped paintings on the walls. It gradually descends into a gorge and then goes back to the Nyi La (4,010 m) from which a beautiful valley dominates. After a long descent, you reach Ghami (3520 m), a small village in the middle of cultivated fields.

Day 7: Tsarang - Lo Manthang

After breakfast, we explore interesting villages and monasteries. Travel little off the road to visit the village of Dhakmar. Next, move to our destination of the day Lo Manthang. The capital surrounded with the ruins of forts. Manthang was founded in 1450 by the son of the legendary Ame Pal, conqueror who united the small kingdoms of the Upper Mustang. In this small and picturesque center you can breathe in an old and surreal atmosphere.

Day 8: Lo Manthang

Day dedicated to visiting the town and its surroundings. The magnificent monasteries of Lho Manthang are beautiful examples of the Sakya-Pa sect where the alleys and squares invite you to visit them offering all the calm and serenity. With a bit of luck (the guide will help) you can get a blessing from King Jingme Paldor Bista Gurung in the royal palace.

Day 9: Lo Manthang - Excursions

Full day dedicated to excursions in the surrounding area to be chosen on site with the guide. Excursions can include the villages of Garphu, Namdrul, Tingkar, NyphuGompa, Namgyal Gompa or Jhong Caves or other similar excursions. We recommend hiring horses which makes it more enjoyable and cheerful.

Day 10: Lo Manthang - Chhusang

Departure, after breakfast, to Chhusang, retracing the route of the past few days.

Day 11: Chhusang - Tetang - Kagbeni - Mukhtinath - Jomsom

For those who want, a small, early in the morning hike of half an hour to reach the extraordinary village of Tetang perched on two heights separated by the river. Returning to Chhusang, continue on Jeep along the road to Kagbeni, then head east to the east side of the valley, up to Mukhtinath (3750 m), along with beautiful views of Niligri (7200 m) and Dhaulagiri (8167 m). a visit to the temple of Muktinath, the most sought-after pilgrimage destination for Hindus and Buddhists throughout the Himalayas, dedicated to Vishnu and Jwala Mai respectively. For those who want it, you can visit the village of Jarkot, built on a cliff and dominated by a monastery and fort (Dzong). Overnight in Simple Lodge

Day 12: Pokhara

 After breakfast early in the morning, fly to Pokhara. Transfer to the hotel and free day to visit the Gorge Sets, Davis Falls, Tibetan refugee camp where you can shop for Tibetan rugs..


For the most daring in this day there is the possibility of paragliding from a summit above Pokhara.

Day 13: Kathmandu

Flight to Kathmandu and end of the day at your disposal.

Day14: Kathmandu

In the morning, visit a major Buddhist center, the Swayambhunath stupa known as the monkey temple famous for a large number of monkeys living inside. This ancient religious complex is located on top of a hill in west side of Kathmandu valley. From the top you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city and the valley that surrounds it. Later, visit the Temple of Pashupatinath, Nepal's most important Hindu temple devoted to Lord Shiva. The original building dates back to the 6th century BC and is known for its pagoda-shaped architecture. This place, also known as Little Benares, is located along the Bagmati River, where funeral ceremonies take place every day.
