Sages Of India Tour

Enjoy a unique experience taking the time and appreciating every moment of serenity ... This tour enables you to discover enchanting landscapes in the foothills of the Himalayas and the shrines of major religions of India . It is the cultural diversity that guides this journey : Golden Temple of the Sikhs , Buddhist schools and temples in Dharamshala , Christian churches in Shimla, Hindu spiritualism and yoga in Rishikesh . The tour ends on a high with one of the most beautiful spa in the world.

 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Delhi

Welcome to Delhi by a representative of Maharajah Driver and transfer to your hotel. Your driver will be at your disposal to accompany you to visit Humayun Tomb, Qutb Minar and the Lotus Temple.  

 

Day 2:Amritsar 

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Amritsar, welcome by a representative of Maharajah Driver and transfer to your hotel . In the evening, visit the shrine of Guru Granth Sahib , the holy book of the Sikhs at Darbar Sahib , known as the Golden Temple. It also features the Amrit Sarovar , the " Lake of Nectar " which in fact gives its name to the city.

 

Day 3: Amritsar 

Visit the Jalianwala Bagh memorial to the massacre of 1919 under British colonial occupation. By late afternoon ceremony of the changing of the guard at the India-Pakistan border.  

 

Day 4: Dharamsala

Departure to Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj, the refuge of the Tibetan government in exile and the residence of His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama perched at 1,830 m since 1959. Originally it was an ancient city which acted as British garrison under Lieutenant David McLeod, Governor of Punjab. You can also see , just before arriving , a Catholic church and a small cemetery.

 

Day 5: Dharamsala 

Visit the small town of Macleod Ganj and Tsuglagkhang sanctuary which houses the residence of the Dalai Lama, a gompa (monastery) and a small museum . You will see the lamas teachings the young and throughout the day many Tibetan tirelessly rotating the prayer wheels in the clockwise direction, chanting many mantras. Departure for the Karmapa's monastery , 15 km from the city, and visit of the Tibetan center where you can admire local crafts.

 

Day 6: Pragpur 

Departure for the captivating historic village of Pragpur, which is 1800 meters in the Kangra valley. After lunch you explore the city, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Late afternoon free to stroll around the village.

 

Day 7: Pragpur

You start the experience with the visit to local town which is one of the first Heritage village of India. This place has managed to keep all the richness and diversity of its history. Traditional houses are in perfect harmony with the colonial buildings of wood. At the market you can find the specialties of all kinds, shawls fine wool, all warm wool blankets for the long winters. The walk in the city will also lead to the discovery of local silver crafts. Near the village there is also a park, a museum and a small theater.

 

Day 8 : Shimla

Departure to Shimla. Formerly called Shyamala ( one of the names of the goddess Kali ) , when this area was part of Nepal. The city perched on a ridge surrounded by hills and pine forests.

 

 Day 9 : Shimla

Depart for a walk that will take you to the Botanical Gardens. When back in town, visit the Church of Christ, the second oldest Catholic church in northern India, built in 1846 , famous for its stained glass windows. Visit the temple of Hanuman , the highest city point from where you have a beautiful view of the region and its snowy mountains. You can also opt to board the " Toy Train " and admire breathtaking landscapes . 

 

Day 10: Dehradun

Long but beautiful road to Dehradun. Enjoy the city tour featuring, Tapkeshwar temple, dedicated to Shiva, The great stupa and the statue of Buddha and the Mausoleum of Ram Rai Darbar.

 

Day 11: Haridwar

 

Drive to 'the door for the Gods' known as Haridwar. This city is placed among the seven sacred cities of the Hindu religion. Visit mythological temples of Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi. Take part in the famous 'Aarti' of Ganges which celebrated daily at 7:00 p.m. It's an incredible atmosphere, when hundreds of people unite in the sacred chanting of Aarti, while various ceremonies take place in the temples.

 

Days 11 & 12: Rishikesh

Over the next two days, you can relax in the fabulous resort  Ananda in the Himalayas, in Rishikesh. Included in your stay is the Himalayan Bliss package that includes the unique blend of knowledge of ancient and modern therapies. All this combined with exciting activities in and around the resort and great food. The treatments included are 45 minutes salt scrub a wild 85 minute rose Swedish massage, a facial and 55 minute honey rose and a 45-minute yoga session.

Alternatively, therapists and qualified instructors can customize a wellness program based on the combination of Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta plans (may incur additional costs). There are also ayurvedic cooking classes available, a gym, a golf and rafting on the Ganges field (in season). It's the ultimate chance to relax and recharge in unspoiled nature.

 

Day 13: Delhi

Transfer to Dehra Dun airport and flight to Delhi. Transfer to your hotel and rest of the day free.

 

Day 14: Delhi

This morning, stroll through the bustling streets of Old Delhi, formerly known as Shahjahanabad. Visit the imposing Red Fort and the busy streets of Chandni Chowk market, the Jama Masjid (the largest mosque in India), ending with the colorful spice market - a sensory experience. In the afternoon, through the majestic boulevards of New Delhi, you will see "India Gate" .Transfer to the airport and end of our services.
